Julie Oudin

Texas, United States of America

When Julie first came upon the work of Louise Shanagher while participating in a Preschool Mindfulness Summit, she instantly had the sense of ‘coming home’:  here was a woman doing exactly what she hoped to do with her own life, promoting positive mental health and well-being for all.  For over 30 years, Julie has devoted her life to serving the needs of young children and all who support them: their parents, their teachers, and school administrators.  She has worked as a toddler teacher, preschool director, mentor teacher, workshop facilitator, and most recently, has become a Creative Mindfulness for Kids practitioner and trainer.  In addition to her work as an educational consultant, Julie currently teaches a class at The Woodlands Children’s Museum called ‘Playing Attention’ designed for 2-3 year old children and a caregiver.

Julie's philosophy

Julie believes with her whole heart that the essence of all good teaching is about connection.  Mindfulness, which is equal parts awareness and kindness or compassion based practices, helps foster this kind of deep connection, with others, and most importantly, with ourselves.  What children really want, and need, is someone to listen to them, to be with them, and to believe in their inherent sense of worth, apart from any physical attribute or accomplishment.  As a sensitive and somewhat fearful child herself, it has been her desire to be that person for other people’s children that she wishes she had as a child.  Training as a Creative Mindfulness for Kids practitioner has been a fitting culmination of Julie’s life’s work and now it is with great joy that she shares these teachings with others.
